AN ARDENT BELIEVER IN EDUCATION AND TECHNOLOGY BEING CATALYSTS FOR CHANGE DR DAVID HEATH SEES BOTH IMPROVING PEOPLES QUALITY OF LIFE BY FINDING NEW AND BETTER WAYS OF MOVING US FORWARD.

Education is like wearing infrared goggles while walking down a pitch black street,” he says. “Visibility is not perfect, but it certainly helps you see where you are going. Without them there would be a much higher chance of taking the wrong direction, or walking around in circles thinking you are making progress.

Technology has no prejudice. It can democratise access to expertise, quality information and advice, levelling the playing field and allowing people access to a more equal opportunity to grow in whichever particular area they want to.

Technology will never replace great teachers but technology in the hands of great teachers can be transformational.

ALIGNMENT TO VALUES

David’s love of technology and belief in education intrinsically align with his core values in seeing people grow, achieving fulfilment in life and reaching a level of potential that was not available without opportunity.

One of his key philosophies is to empower people rather than displace through technology – and improving an individual’s sense of well-being and relationships are also key to this.

He very much believes most people have a strong moral inclination to live a life of integrity in all its meanings, and technology is a support in this endeavour.

ENABLING, EQUIPPING, EMPOWERING PEOPLE
to achieve the freedom of good physical, mental, emotional, relational and spiritual health is a cornerstone of his philosophy in business

Contribution is high on my need structure.

I experience a lot of fulfilment in supporting others to grow, to develop, achieve their desired outcome more readily.

ENTREPRENEURIAL SCIENTIST

In 2013 David was awarded an Enterprise Fellowship supported by the Royal Society of Edinburgh and Scottish Enterprise. This fellowship allowed him to focus on industry engagement, building relationships with partners for specifying needs within the industry that can be addressed through novel engineering approaches. Which was the perfect vehicle for David to readdress the direction of all the work he had done on devices and clinical studies in order to gather an in-depth understanding of the cosmetics industry and assess the value of his product to it and its consumers.

“One of the areas I really had to look into for my own confidence moving into this industry was to understand how much of this is based on science and how much is based on marketing spin. I’m quite a cynical scientist, as I’ve been told quite regularly.

Seeing a gap in the market and with the belief that the expertise he had developed, working with transdermal medical technology, could be re-applied to solve some of the major challenges in the cosmetic skincare industry David confidently founded the company Cutitronics – with the aim of doing just that.

Inventions like the Fitbit have fuelled demand for personalised health devices and with our vision, technology and education combined to create clarity of goals, clarity of steps towards those goals, clarity of progress and clarity of results along the way.

PASSIONATE ENGINEER

A biomedical engineer with degrees in physics and engineering – who, almost accidentally, branched into the world of cosmetics after presenting at a skincare conference – David freely admits his own attitude to skincare had completely changed after learning about the level of science that is used to develop new industry products.

I was surprised to see the size of the cosmetics sector and even more so when I saw some of the challenges they were having and realised they hadn’t really considered the power that engineering devices and digital technology can also bring.

Dr David Heath Founder & CEO of Cutitronics

The application of technology and education as provided by the Cutitronics system should show people on this journey of understanding what is possible, being empowered to achieve it through a tech-enabled system and being equipped through the tools provided to them.

FOUNDER & CEO OF CUTITRONICS

Now a multi-award winning company focussed on enhancing the omnichannel consumer skincare experience, delivering a truly disruptive technology through its mobile app.

Central to this is David’s concept of taking medical device technologies and principles and reapplying them to solve acknowledged challenges within the cosmetic skincare industry.

The Company is on target to strategically white-label its patented platforms and devices for global premium skincare brands, having gained international attention for its revolutionary Cutitron technology which was unveiled at In-Cosmetics Global in 2018.

Cutitron diagnoses & measures skin condition, dispenses and provides connected data – all from the comfort of home, and all individual to a brand and it’s consumers.

TEAM PLAYER

Throughout his career, David Heath has seen how important teamwork can be in achieving an end result. Even in his early post-doctoral days the value of working in multi-disciplinary clinical, commercial and engineering teams shone through.

For Cutitronics to realise its full potential, it really takes all of the parts of the team coming together. They all love a challenge. To be doing something that’s innovative and that they can put their mark on.

As David says: “This is a pivotal time in our development as we continue to break technological barriers every day. Each team member will play a significant role in shaping our products and top-line user experience.”

“We are very proud to have brought together such an impressive team, hailing from a diverse range of backgrounds. Combining these many and varied skillsets has enabled us to develop something the world has never seen before. We believe our work will help to shape the future of the global beauty industry for the better.”

Engineering is a tool for upcoming generations to realise their passions, equipped with the knowledge and skills that technology can deliver.
